Horse Cruelty: Soring, Tail Blocking, and Gingering

Okay you guys, this is going to be very long! I am going to be doing a long post about cruelty to horses. Mostly on showing cruelty, which seems to be more of a problem than anyone could ever think. There are so many ways to hurt you horses, just to make them look better. I am going to show you some of these things.

         Okay so at first look this is really cool right? Maybe not...
The reason these horses walk like this?! The reason is pain. "Trainers" put chemicals on these horses feet and ankles, such as mustard oil which contains about 52% of acid. A few other chemicals used are kerosene and diesel fuel. The horses legs are then wrapped in plastic so the chemicals can not evaporate, and is forced to be absorbed into the skin. This causes large amounts of pain for the horse, and to add to this chains are then put around the horses ankles, and as you can imagine this makes the pain far more intense. These practices can cause lesions on the horses feet and ankles, and can scar the horses for the rest of their life. All of this for a little ribbon, maybe even money? No amount of money is worth a horses suffering or pain.
         Another form of horse showing cruelty? Tail blocking is another sad cruelty. The horses tail is injected with alcohol. This ends up paralyzing the horses tail, so they do not swish it while in the show ring.  Tail slicing and gingering are others. Gingering is like soring, but this time chemicals are put underneath the horses tail. Tail slicing is where a tendon in the horses tail is cut, so the horse will carry its tail higher. The same thing is done to horses ears also. These practices are done to prohibit the horse from showing negative behaviors such as tail swishing and ear pinning.
      These are just a few ways that things can harm a horse in a show ring. There is other cruelty besides in the show ring. We need to be aware of this in order to stop it. If you see, or know of these things happening please report it to judges, officials, etc. This needs to be stopped. Why wait any longer?
