  1. Poor horses in the wild horse races. :( Looks like an accident waiting to happen for both horse and contestants.

  2. Yes accidents do happen, I have never seen in all my years of rodeo an animal get hurt though, I know for a fact Dayton rough stock get very well taken care of, my parents know the guy who is contacted for the rodeos, the horses aren't used very often and spend most of their lives in the pasture, I can actually show you some pictures my mom took of the same horses used in the wild horse race and rough stock competitions out in pasture with the same markings and same exact brands, people say rodeo is all cruel and the horses are zapped and whipped, but I have seen with my own eyes a mare come bucking out of the shute, with nothing on her, not even a halter, the only thing with her was her foal, horses are breed to buck, they know their job just like any other horse, bucking presssure and release same method as training to ride, they buck the rider off, they get release some of them even start bucking and then decide they don't feel like it that day, this year at the rodeo the guy was riding bareback and his horse stopped after about 4 jumps and the guy just sat there then hopped off when they announced re-ride, everybody just laughed! :) if any horse or bull could buck they wouldn't pay thousands of $$$$ to have them at their rodeos here is part of an interview, i can send you th link if ya want :) "During the season, bucking bulls compete against one another for over a million dollars in prize money, and those that consistently pull down big points can be worth $300,000 or more. PBR’s top-ranked bull Bushwacker, is valued at just under a million dollars." Here is a link http://newsok.com/award-winning-rodeo-bareback-horse-still-living-on-a-ranch-near-elk-city-is-subject-of-a-statue-in-elk-city/article/3876217 to 3 time bucking horse of the year, he spent 12 years in his bucking job, and now he lives out his days on a nice ranch, all rodeo stock are well taken care of there are certain laws that control rodeos, like I said, I have never seen an animal get injured in my many years of watching rodeos all over, the closest I think we have come is a horse that tripped and fell over then got up and kept running!

  3. What does Rick Gore think about rodeos? What are his thoughts on how the horses and other animals are treated? Just curious. Lots of money in rodeos that is for sure. Money talks, rodeos are entertainment.

  4. Im not actually sure what he thinks of them, he has nothing on his site about them, and I know I sure don't have the time to go looking through his 500+ videos, if you find it, let me know! Like I said I like a lot of his advice, mostly on horse behavior, and how most horse problems are people caused, but... he thinks helmets are bad, he thinks shows are bad, and he dissagrees with things like stud chains, you need a stud chain for halter right? Every situation is different, I can lead my horse around just fine without anything even on him just stick my thumb in his mouth and go, I don't need a stud chain or even a halter, but it is needed for show, It provides no cues, its just there...every situation is different, and there ARE known rodeos where many horses do die each year, and I agree these should be shut down, Im not going to try to tell you guys that there arn't rodeos like that, but not Dayton :) This is also why I don't go to some rodeos, out further west they can get worse, like the Cheyenne rodeo. They are this way because use bigger calves, which promotes a practice called jerk downs. http://wyomingnews.com/articles/2013/07/25/news/19local_07-25-13.txt here is the link to an interview with a person who works there. There is also the Omack Suicide race during the rodeo, horses are ridden full speed then down a 62 degree bank into a river in the dark, in the last 25 years 21 horses have been killed. Not to mention the ones who are severly injured and have to be put down at a later time, these were horses that died on rodeo grounds. Im not going to lie rodeos have bad reps because there ARE bad rodeos. But not all of them are bad, I fully and completly support the Dayton rodeo, if you want to come see it I can give you the date and time for the Championship, and let ya know when the amature rodeos start up again! Go see some of the be good rodeos, and you will see that they aren't bad. :) They are just like people, some of them are good, and some are bad :) but thats why I love Dayton so much!

  5. Glad the Dayton Rodeo is one of the good ones. Here is the site to what Rick Gore's thinking is on rodeos, racing, jumping and Gymkanna and winning sports www.youtube.com/watch?v=Cj0RWybN3Eg. Only giving it so now you can say you know how he thinks. I did see a video of how he feels about helmets and from the way I understood it he didn't disagree with helmets just felt people got stupid and careless wearing one because they felt "safer" wearing one, women especially. Rick Gore in an interesting character. He may have great ideas with horses but his people skills suck at times. I wouldn't take all his advice, keep wearing your helmet. :) I'm pretty sure you don't become stupid wearing one and are always mindful that anything can happen.
